- Remarks
This High Level design consists of:
- Georeferenced plans (optical and civil one) – DWG/Shape file/KMZ;
- High level BOM/BOQ (xlsx file).
The area in Botswana, Gaborone:
North: Nyerere Dr
East: Maputo Dr
South:
- Molepolole Rd
- Queens Rd
- Churchill Way
- Notwane Rd
West: Nelson Mandela Dr
We converted existing data:
GABORONE PLOTS 2018_POINTS.shp.
We converted the plot data and imported it in the drawing.
The plot number was taken into the design as the FTU/ONT number.
We corrected this data:
- We changed some FTU into MDU (top left of the area)
- Deleted some FTU (if the FTU was at an empty space)
- Added FTU where required (and none was present)
Example of a correction:
Original GIS data:
1 ONT (home) with PLOT Nr. 2989
Corrected data:
19 MNT (Multi-dwellings)
with PLOT Nr’s. 2989-1-19
With 3 ONT (homes) each
We converted the data for the existing duct.
GABORONE_FTTH_PROJECT_DUCTs.shp.
- We converted the duct data and imported it in the drawing as existing duct
- Added new duct trails where required for the HL-design
- Automatically created garden/drop trails to the buildings
We used the abbreviation SDU for a single dwelling unit and MDU for a multi-dwelling unit.
In this area, in this high-level design, are 1100 FTU, Fiber Termination Unit, Endpoints).
This is without an actual walk-out survey.
Autocad Map 3D: we checked all data for doubles and correct line connections and created the drop-lines, connecting the homes to the existing duct.
NetOptimus: we imported the ONT(FTU) (1043) & MNT(19×3=57) and duct lines.

Actual routes / trails containing cables:
- Existing ducts used (blue color)
- New duct trails used (red color)
- Garden/drop trails used (green color)
The BOQ is a separate report with all relevant quantities. The design was made as a quick design without any survey and many assumptions made. The BOQ resulted directly from the design. A walk-out survey is required.
The existing and new-duct routes need to be checked and improved. With more time spend on thinking about new duct routes and making smart possible duct routes/connections the design can be optimized automatically.
The shortest (drop) connection from each building to the main-duct was now made automatically. They all need to be checked in the field.
